Frameworks for Higher Education in Homeland Security
This report was crafted in response to a request by the Department of Homeland Security, to the National Academies, to develop a conceptual framework that could guide the plethora of homeland security-oriented academic programs that were emerging in the months following 9/11.
This report was drafted by Merrilea Mayo for the National Academies committee assigned to this topic. The report is available here.
Game-based learning promises far deeper experiential understanding of academic subjects than traditional lecture, but it suffers from the lack of a viable busines model. Two Mayo-authored articles, one in Science magazine, and one in the now-defunct Journal of International Learning and Media, explore the issues.
